Call me jaded...

Call me jaded, but not many bikes really trip my trigger these days. Yes, I love bikes, but there are so many that are so "the same."  Average just isn't good enough any more. I need innovation or great design to get excited over.

Enter the Trek District. A belt-drive single-speed urban bike built to ride, not tinker with.  No grease, no shifters, no flats. And whoever dreamt up those orange rims was either inspired or nuts.  I love 'em!

What a great bike for commuting, puttin' around, or grocery-getting (yes, it's rack-friendly). Indianapolis bike trails are ready for the District!

Wow, this looks so cool. Would I choose this over a more traditional commuter bike with gears?

It depends on your ride. Most commuting around Indy is a fairly steady-paced proposition. No hills, and predictable conditions. Perfect for a non-shifting bike. Single-speeds are a way to leave the complexity of the world behind you-- no gears, no need for speed: Just ride for the pure pleasure of it. You might start by trying this: quit shifting for a ride or two. Or a day or a week. Just pick a gear and learn to love it. Now, imagine that without the sound of the chain running through the derailleur pulleys, and always perfectly aligned. Now imagine no noise but your tires on the road. That's what a belt-drive SS is like. Sweetness!!
