Monon Detour to cross I-465

Thursday, March 4, 2010 by Connie Schmucker
The project on I-465 is wreaking havoc for northside bicycle commuters. There are no crossings of I-465 between Keystone and Allisonville Rd. except for College Ave.  River Rd. and Westfiled Blvd bridges are gone and the Monon connection is closed.

If you normally take the Monon from the north to cross I-465, here's an alternative.

From the Monon heading south, go West on 106th St to College. Go South on College to 96th St. Go East on 96th St. to the Monon.
Reverse to return north.

Hope that helps!

Comments for Monon Detour to cross I-465

This works good, but in order to avoid more of College, cut thru the neighborhood that is next to the Monon. Going towards 106th, the neighborhood is to the left after you take a right on 106th towards College then take an left into the neighborhood and weave your way thru until you hit 101st street, then take a rt to College. This makes it a shorter ride on College ave. Then make your left onto 96th. On the way back, take a Rt onto College from 96th and as soon as you are done with the construction going under the 465 overpass make a rt onto 101st, weave your way thru the neighborhood back to 106 and then make a rt and a left onto the Monon. Remember this, the trail is usually open after 5pm and somtimes before 730am. The orange construction sign at 96th and 106th tell you of the path is open or not, but be careful somtimes the signs are wrong because the construction workers forget to change them.
